Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs fell short of their Super Bowl three-peat goals in 2024, ultimately falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl LIX matchup.

Though the Chiefs played their way to the title game, the team’s offense didn’t look quite as dynamic as it typically does. The Kansas City offense struggled to push the ball downfield for big chunk plays. In fact, Mahomes completed a career-low 39.5% of his attempts when throwing the ball more than 15 yards downfield — ranking 29th among NFL quarterbacks.

With the upcoming season quickly approaching, Mahomes promised that won’t be the case again in 2025.

“Last year was abnormal,” Mahomes said, via ESPN. “We definitely want to push the ball down the field and push the ball into tighter windows this year.”

Through 16 regular-season games in 2024, Mahomes completed 67.5% of his pass attempts for 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. These statistics pale in comparison to his MVP season in 2022 when he threw for a league-leading 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns.

According to veteran tight end Travis Kelce, Mahomes looks to be in peak form ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

“It seems like he’s always a step ahead,” Kelce said of Mahomes. “His arm is alive right now. It’s fun to see him know the play and know where he’s going before the snap happens. He’s our biggest, fearless competitor.

“He’s really leading this team right now into working hard and getting right.”

Mahomes and the Chiefs will kickoff their 2025 regular-season schedule with a Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sep. 5.
