Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea transfer update as Enzo Maresca given huge Xavi Simons boost

Chelsea only have two weeks or so to wrap up any remaining business before the transfer window slams shut. The Blues have forked out almost £250m on new players this summer, yet they've shown no sign of slowing down.

Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho continue to be heavily linked with moves to Stamford Bridge, while Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson face uncertain futures. The west Londoners also need to resolve the futures of Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling in the coming weeks.

There's lots of work still to be done, but Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart have plenty of time to get their house in order. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Chelsea transfer news.

Chelsea continue Garnacho transfer talks

football.london understands Chelsea are working on a deal to sign Garnacho from Manchester United, but they're reluctant to pay more than £30m. The 21-year-old winger, who has attracted plenty of interest this summer, has made it clear that he wishes to join the Blues.

The Red Devils value Garnacho at £50m, but the west Londoners are hoping to land a bargain given his situation at Old Trafford. The Argentina international fell out of favour with Ruben Amorim at the end of last term, and he's played no role in United's pre-season preparations.

football.london says: "I've never been particularly keen on this move, and, if I'm being brutally honest, I'd rather Chelsea not sign Alejandro Garnacho. That said, if the Blues can get him for £30m in today's market, it'll be a good piece of business. At the end of the day, if Enzo Maresca has given the green light, then I'll happily back the transfer."

Chelsea given huge Simons transfer boost

Chelsea have been given a huge boost to their hopes of finally signing Xavi Simons this summer. According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest are in the process of agreeing a £37.5m deal with Ipswich Town for Omari Hutchinson.

The report claims that personal terms are not thought to be an issue, but both the player and the Premier League outfit have other options on the table so a transfer isn't done yet. It's said that a move is ready to be sorted pending final decisions.

When Hutchinson swapped Stamford Bridge for Portman Road last summer for an initial £18m, plus performance related add-ons, Chelsea inserted a 25 per cent sell-on clause into his contract. So, if a deal with Forest goes through, the Blues will bank about £9.4m.

football.london says: "Chelsea could put £9.4m or so from Omari Hutchinson's potential transfer to Nottingham Forest towards a bid for Xavi Simons. The RB Leipzig maestro has been heavily linked with a move to the Blues for a while now, so the fee could help fund an offer."

Chelsea icon makes 'logical' transfer suggestion

Speaking to TNT Sports, Joe Cole urged Chelsea to sign a new goalkeeper before transfer window slams shut. Mike Maignan was briefly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge at the start of the summer, but the Blues refused to meet AC Milan's asking price.

"They kept chopping and changing last season," said the former Chelsea midfielder. "Look at all the great teams who have won titles, they’ve all got a top, top goalkeeper. For me, it’s just logical that we need to sort that out."

football.london says: "I disagree. Robert Sanchez has earned his keep at Chelsea. Those who have actually watched him since he returned to the starting lineup in March will know he's been enjoying a good vein of form. The Blues have no reason to go and sign a new long-term goalkeeper – especially with Mike Penders set for a first-team audition next year."
