Aaron Rodgers Status for Preseason Week 2 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Revealed

The Pittsburgh Steelers have not shown what the offense is going to look like, as quarterback Aaron Rodgers sat out Week 1 of the preseason last week. This led to more questions regarding his status entering Week 2 of the preseason. Let’s take a deeper dive into what we know regarding Aaron Rodgers’ availability for this week’s game.

During Thursday’s media availability, coach Mike Tomlin discussed which players are going to be unavailable for Week 2 of the 2025 NFL Preseason at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This included seeing Aaron Rodgers not make his debut this week.

“I’m going to play this preseason game very much like we did the first one. In terms of participation, the same collection of guys that were held out the last time will comprise the guys that are held out this time.”

Mike Tomlin also seemed to hint at holding out Aaron Rodgers until Week 1 against the New York Jets to Bob Labriola of the Pittsburgh Steelers website when asked about NFL coaches holding out their quarterbacks throughout the preseason.

“You might be looking at one in 2025. Hey, [Aaron Rodgers] has been doing this for 21 years. His cumulative snap total and what’s required for him to be ready is different than others. And so if I’m not adaptable and open to adjustments relative to the needs of our guys, then I’m not doing my job.”

He has not played in the preseason since 2023 with the New York Jets. Aaron Rodgers could be sitting out until Week 1 of the NFL season, but it will be interesting to see how the Pittsburgh Steelers look in the 2025 season.
