The Cleveland Browns are in a tough position as they are looking to see which quarterback will be starting for the team heading into the 2025 season. They have a four-way quarterback battle between Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, and Joe Flacco, but the team saw Shedeur Sanders suffer an oblique injury during the week.
This is going to cause a wrinkle in the quarterback competition as a result. Let’s take a closer look at what the Cleveland Browns are doing to help Shedeur Sanders recover.

Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski discussed the oblique injury that quarterback Shedeur Sanders suffered and how the team wants to be cautious with the injury. During his morning press conference on Thursday, Stefanski explained when the injury happened and how they are treating him right now.
“Yeah, felt it early, I think warming up and then felt it throughout individual [drills], so took a look at it. If it’s a right guard, you can play through that. When it’s a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw. So, unfortunately, going to put him down for a little bit here. We’ll treat it as day-to-day and see how it responds. But, want to be smart because he’s a thrower – you can’t push that thing.”
Shedeur Sanders started last week’s preseason opener and looked solid as he completed 14 of 23 (60.8%) of his passes for 138 yards with a pair of passing touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers. It is unknown if he will be cleared to play for Saturday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles so it will be interesting to see if he can play and climb up the Cleveland Browns’ depth chart.
