The opposition
The Cottagers were last year’s PL2 runners-up, having missed out on top spot by just two points to overall champions Manchester City. Their strong form on the road outperformed the rest of the league, winning eight out of their 11 away fixtures. The second-place achievement tabled their highest-ever league finish and earned them a record tally of 45 points.
Hayden Mullins’ side built upon their impressive domestic performance over the summer break, picking up six wins from their eight warm-up tests and concluded preparations with a 2-1 victory over fellow top-flight outfit Brighton & Hove Albion.
We last faced the west London team in January, in which brothers Ismail and Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand both netted, before Khayon Edwards added a third in a 6-3 defeat.
