Everton ramp up youth recruitment

It seems there’s plenty going on with recruitment at all levels of the club in these last few weeks of the transfer window. The latest breaking news on Thursday was concerning the Blues’ signing of England Under 15 international centre back **Reuben Gokah**. The report came from trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano’s X account. This deal was first talked about in early June this year. As ever, the wheels were perhaps set in motion two months ago and have now seemingly come to fruition. There are strong suggestions that Gokah has been in training with the Under 18s since their return from the summer break. He had been part of **Charlton Athletic**’s youth set up.

The U18s did reportedly suffer a blow at centre back in recent weeks when fellow Academy newcomer **John Dodds** suffered an injury. It’s not known how serious that might be, but it will probably mean Gokah is firmly in the spotlight. The report from Romano is below.

Also, but not yet confirmed, is the possibility of the Blues signing young Australian goalkeeper **Lachlan Allen**. The highly-rated 16 year old stopper apparently kept goal in the recent game arranged by the Toffees to face a team comprising free agent players who might wish to get noticed by the array of scouts present. It should be noted that he will have faced senior players in this game. We will wait for further news on that one but there’s the distinct possibility that young Allen will be swapping the red and black kit of **West Sydney Warriors** for the blue of Everton.

Through the out door earlier last week was one of last year’s Academy newcomers, Freddie Freedman, yet another centre back. He took up the option of furthering his career with **Millwall**. He has an interesting football heritage as his father is former Scotland striker **Dougie Freedman** and his grandfather was the late **Ray Clemence,** formerly goalkeeper of Liverpool and England.

Subject to confirmation, although these two new incoming young players might appear to be some way off getting near David Moyes’ first team, we shouldn’t forget that both **Braiden Graham** and **Justin Clarke** arrived at the Academy only 12 months ago, both of them in similar circumstances, having been previously assigned to League clubs. Both those youngsters were part of the senior training squad this last pre-season, experiencing the camp in the USA. So, anything is possible, good luck to them all!
