Chelsea 'plan' bold £40m Liverpool swoop as Leeds United gain striker transfer boost

The latest Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, West Ham and more.

It’s once again time for our regular morning round-up and review of the biggest new Premier League transfer rumours – and today, we’re going to kick off with a surprising story concerning Chelsea and Liverpool.

According to Chelsea News, the Blues “plan to make a direct offer” for Liverpool centre-half Ibrahima Konaté in the wake of news that Levi Colwill will miss the majority of the 2025/26 season with a serious knee injury.

Konaté, as the article notes, has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid with one year left to run on his contract at Anfield, and the Spanish giants’ interest means that a bid for the Frenchman is “likely to fail”, but it sounds as though Chelsea will have a crack nonetheless with Colwill out of action.

There’s no word on the finances involved beyond the note that Chelsea are unlikely to be “breaking the bank” for whichever player they sign to replace Colwill – previous stories in other publications have suggested that Liverpool are demanding around £40m for their player.

The 3AM Verdict: Almost no chance, quite frankly, and the lack of detail in the story means that we suspect that it was largely pulled out of thin air – and Konaté doesn’t fit Chelsea’s youth-centric recruitment policy, either. We’d be amazed if this move took place.

Leeds in for surprise Everton bid

Over to Football Insider now, who give us a slightly surprising story concerning the future of Everton striker Beto – who is allegedly “expected to leave” after “falling foul” of manager David Moyes.

The 27-year-old is said to be “on the radar” of recently-promoted Leeds United and could be on his way to Elland Road soon, although there’s no suggestion that any offer has been made yet or any word on how much Beto could cost.

The possibility comes about because Moyes has supposedly been left “unimpressed by Beto’s attitude” in pre-season, and because they are working on a deal to sign AS Roma and Ukraine centre-forward Artem Dovbyk, having submitted a £37m bid.

The 3AM Verdict: This is news to us but if Everton do sign Dovbyk – and we’veseen the link several times before – then withThierno Barry also on the books, Beto’s space in the squad seems deeply insecure, and Moyes did make some public comments in which he gently chided the striker and demanded more from him. A story which all makes sense, but we haven’t seen anything to suggest that move to Leeds is exactly imminent.

West Ham battle Rangers to sign second tier starlet

Finally, a story from GiveMeSport which alleges that West Ham United are “going toe-to-toe” with Scottish side Rangers in the battle for young Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles, who could become the latest player to leave Hillsborough amid the Yorkshire side’s ongoing crisis.

Apparently, the Hammers have already lodged a bid worth around £1m for the 20-year-old, with Rangers joining them shortly thereafter in making an offer. Rangers head coach Russell Martin worked with Pierce’s brother Shea at Southampton and is apparently a keen admirer.

The problem is that at present, Wednesday “have not responded to any offers” amid a catastrophic situation which has seen staff go unpaid, many of the club’s players leave and doubts about their ability to fulfil fixtures. With Wednesday effectively leaderless at the moment, it’s not clear if a deal can be done.

The 3AM Verdict: Charles would very much be a developmental signing and, at best, West Ham’s third-choice goalkeeper for the coming campaign, so this is a story that’s really more significant for the long-suffering Sheffield Wednesday supporters who face losing yet another player – and a very promising one, at that. It’s very hard to say whether a deal can be done under the circumstances, however.
