Roman Kemp almost stopped supporting Arsenal altogether for pivotal reason

Roman Kemp revealed that Ryan Giggs was responsible for the moment he almost stopped supporting Arsenal.

The One Show presenter - who will host the Premier League Friday show on Sky Sports News this season - has been a fervent fan of the Premier League side since childhood.

Making an appearance on Sky Sports' Football Museum show last year, Kemp delved into his footballing memories as a child as he revealed what the first Arsenal kit he had was and who his favourite player was.

Raised as a Gunners fan by his father, Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp, the 32-year-old has championed the club throughout the years but did surprisingly admit there was a time he was adamant that he would no longer follow the north London outfit.

When asked if he had one football memory to banish, Kemp immediately answered: "Ryan Giggs". Referencing the Manchester United legend's iconic solo extra-time goal to defeat Arsenal in the 1999 FA Cup semi-final, he admitted that 25 years on, it still affects him to this day.

"I can't even listen to that commentary," he said. "When that goal went in, it was the first time I ever cried about football, and my dad didn't speak to me for like three days because I said I'm not supporting Arsenal again." His emotions certainly ran high at the time, but didn't last long.

Kemp's love of football makes him an ideal choice for Sky's newest show ahead of the 2025/26 season that begins on Friday, with defending champions Liverpool hosting Bournemouth.

In a new addition to the football content calendar, Sky Sports News is launching 'The Premier League Show', which is set to air Monday to Friday from 5pm to 7pm. Friday's edition of the programme will be hosted by Kemp where he'll broadcast live from the studio each week.

Kemp's inaugural show will air before the season-opener at Anfield and will be broadcasted on Sky Sports News, Sky Sports Premier League, and Sky Sports Main Event.

Speaking when the announcement was made, Kemp pledged to do right by the sport he's loved his entire life. He said: "Football means more to me than anything. To be a part of a show like this building up to the biggest games in world football is a real privilege. I can't wait to get going and as a fan, do this show justice."
