Breaking–Aston Villa decide on Everton&Newcastle target’s future

Aston Villa have decided not to part ways with John McGinn after Everton tabled a bid for their captain.

Everton already signed Jack Grealish on a loan deal and have also signed Chelsea’s midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on a 5 year permanent deal but are looking to at more quality.

Everton are not the only Premier League club eyeing the services of McGinn. Newcastle United, under Eddie Howe, are also interested in the midfielder but has not yet initiated formal talks with Everton.

John McGinn’s current deal at Villa Park runs until 2027. The captain and leader has established himself at Aston Villa with noteworthy performances in the centre of the pitch. In his 49 appearances across all competitions, he scored 4 goals and set up another 6.

Everton gaffer, David Moyes, is known to be particularly impressed by McGinn’s calmness and composure. McGinn has been instrumental in Aston Villa’s recent progress on the field.

Moyes is keen on increasing his options in midfield and finds the Scottish footballer a worthy candidate. McGinn has been David Moyes’ ‘priority’ summer transfer target.

Everton have been linked with a move for the player since the beginning of the transfer window and have even tabled an offer. Unai Emery considers McGinn integral to his plans heading into the 2025/26 season.

Newcastle United have been busy figuring out the Alexander Isak situation. However, the club are aware of the fact that they need to be prepared for a mammoth season involving the UEFA Champions League. McGinn could be the answer to Newcastle’s problems in the centre of the pitch.

It remains to be seen if the Magpies will make contact with Aston Villa over a transfer. Aston Villa, in the meantime, have also managed to renew the contract of former Barcelona defender Lucas Digne. The new deal will extend the French defender’s stay at Villa Park by 2 years until 2028.
