Alexander Isak’s potential transfer to Liverpool has dominated headlines over the last couple of days.
The Sweden international is doing everything in his power to try to seal his switch to Anfield, but at the moment, talks haven’t been reopened.
It’s clear to see why Newcastle don’t want to get rid of their talisman because they’ve not managed to sign his replacement just yet.

Of course, this isn’t to say that the Magpies haven’t tried to sign a new number nine, but all of their potential targets, such as Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike, have all chosen to go elsewhere.
Newcastle could try and make do until January if they sell Alexander Isak to Liverpool
As mentioned, one of the main reasons that a transfer for Isak hasn’t been sanctioned yet is that Eddie Howe hasn’t found a suitable replacement for his star man.
Without Isak last season, the Magpies would’ve likely missed out on Champions League football and perhaps not have even won the Carabao Cup.
Now, however, as per a report from Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope, it seems like a new ‘scenario’ has come to light.
Hope reports that even though there was no chance of this happening ‘a few weeks ago,’ the Magpies may now go through until January and make do with what they have available to them.

The report also outlines that Howe could end up using the ‘likely combination’ of Yoanne Wissa and Anthony Gordon at centre-forward until they find their man.
That is, if Isak is sold to Liverpool, of course.

Newcastle to move ahead with Yoanne Wissa deal after Brentford transfer news
One of Eddie Howe’s main targets this season has been Wissa.
The 29-year-old was one of Brentford’s best players last season, with the attacker forming a dynamic partnership with Bryan Mbuemo.
However, as per a fresh report from Fabrizio Romano, since a deal for Dango Ouattara has been reached between the Bees and Bournemouth, Keith Andrews is now willing to ‘advance’ with the departure of Wissa.
“Newcastle now planning to advance with Yoane Wissa deal as soon as possible after Brentford agreed Ouattara deal,” Romano wrote via his personal X account.
“Ouattara to sign at Brentford in next 24h, Wissa not even with the squad this weekend as he only wants to leave.
“Clear priority to Newcastle United.”

On the face of things, it’s clear that Newcastle still need another striker to replace both Isak and Calum Wilson.
However, with the amount of carnage that has been caused by the Isak transfer saga, Newcastle may end up cutting their losses and end up selling him to the Reds, as it’s been made more than clear that’s where he wants to be.
