Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United talks 'very, very advanced' over £50 million transfer exit

The latest Man Utd transfer news and gossip as we enter the final couple of weeks of the summer window.

Manchester United still hope to sanction several sales in the final weeks of the summer transfer window in an effort to ease their financial situation. United have spent roughly £200 million to sign Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Diego Leon but have yet to sell a single player this summer.

United have allowed ten players to leave the club on loan and have also received loan offers for both Jadon Sancho and Toby Collyer over proposed summer exits. It was made clear at the start of the summer that several stars were deemed surplus to requirements, though none of the 'bomb squad' have been shifted permanently.

That could change in the coming weeks, with Alejandro Garnacho the subject of serious transfer interest from Chelsea. The London club had always planned to test United's resolve with a bid late in the summer window, as they aim to secure a deal for less than his reported £50m asking price.

Garnacho exit 'very advanced'

Manchester United are understood to value Alejandro Garnacho at roughly £50 million, but it is suggested Chelsea could look to sign him for as little as £30m before deadline day. Any fee received for the Argentine would be recognised as pure profit from a financial perspective due to his status as an academy graduate.

It means there could be room for a compromise over the fee and United might reluctantly accept a lower initial fee if it included plenty of lucrative add-ons and a possible sell-on clause. There is still a way to go before an official bid is placed but Fabrizio Romano claims talks are 'very advanced' over his potential switch to Stamford Bridge.

“Talks in the background between Chelsea and Manchester United are well underway,” he told his YouTube channel. “Chelsea are working on this Garnacho deal, Chelsea have an agreement with Garnacho.

“I know in the media it’s not present, but trust me, behind the scenes the Garnacho deal is very, very advanced and very, very active. So Man United are prepared to sell Garnacho on a permanent transfer. Then Antony, there is Betis interest and Betis are still working on the Antony deal. Let's see if financially they can do it or other clubs will jump into it. Antony is another asset for Manchester United."
