Transfer update, Jayden Bogle injury and the key questions Daniel Farke set to answer

Daniel Farke will host his first pre-match press conference of the season later today ahead of Monday’s opening clash with Everton at Elland Road.

Leeds United have made their move towards their next striker signing, with an agreement reached for free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The approach has divided opinion among the fanbase in light of his injury record and declining goal return in recent seasons.

However, the recruitment drive does not stop there with a left winger, a full-back and potentially a number 10 being sought after before deadline day. Today’s meet at Thorp Arch may be dominated by transfer talk but there are also other topics to discuss. Here are a handful of questions the boss could be asked.

Is Jayden Bogle fit enough to start?

Speaking to reporters in Dublin, Farke said he "desperately" hoped Bogle would be in the squad for Monday. He had already taken back to the grass by then and there was optimism he would return from his two-week absence with a hip flexor issue in time for Everton.

The more pertinent question may be whether the right-back is able to start the game, and possibly face up against new Everton signing Jack Grealish. Supporters have been left concerned by Isaac Schmidt’s performances in the last two friendlies and the need for a new back-up full-back has been underlined.

Are any more strikers coming in?

Should Calvert-Lewin’s arrival be announced prior to the press conference then questions about him will be inevitable. But regardless, Farke will be quizzed on how much of a priority getting in another centre-forward is.

Rumours have claimed that Leeds are still considering other forward options despite the arrival of Calvert-Lewin. Supporters have shared their worry should no further central strikers be acquired given the injury history of the England international and fellow summer recruit Lukas Nmecha.

How far along is the pursuit of a winger?

Leeds hold interest in a number of wing options including AC Milan attacker Noah Okafor, Strasbourg winger Dilane Bakwa and Juventus’ Nico Gonzalez. No known advances have been made but time is ticking.

Farke has several times referenced the loss of Manor Solomon when lamenting his attacking options this summer and it seems right now that Wilfried Gnonto is the starting left flanker. An insight into optimism over a new alternative would be gratefully received by the fans.

What is the feeling ahead of the opening night?

This will inevitably be met by an insistence of confidence and hope mixed with respect for the opposition. But fans will be paying close attention to the manager’s mood and comments given his recent comments over frustration with attacking signings.

It’s unclear whether Calvert-Lewin will be available in time to play against former club Everton, in which case Leeds might be fielding a front three that could have been picked last season. The Toffees are, on paper, perhaps their best hope of a win in the opening three matches.
