It’s going to come down to the Spaniard and the Chilean stars again this year in this week’s LIV Golf Indianapolis with the season-long individual title on the line.
In 2024, Rahm got the better of Niemann in this same championship when it was staged in Chicago at Boilingbrook Golf Club.
This week, the Club at Chatham Hills hosts the championship in Indianapolis. The season-long winner-because of the math-will end up being either the current number one Niemann or the number two in Rahm. Niemann has five individual wins so far this season, while Rahm boasts three second place finishes including a tie for second last week in Chicago.
One of the most popular players in the sport-Bryson DeChambeau-who’s ranked third in the standings doesn’t have a mathematical chance to win the season-long title, but he chimed in during his press conference on Wednesday with his thoughts on the Rahm-Niemann rivalry.
“It’s really impressive. The level of competition they bring to LIV is out of control,” DeChambeau told reporters in the press conference. “It makes it almost impossible for some guys. So that’s what we need. We need continued push by those guys at the top to showcase what the best in the world look like, and (I) couldn’t be more proud of those individuals for leading the way in that regard, and hopefully I can be at the top next year and give myself a chance.”
In LIV Golf’s 25 regular-season tournaments that have included both Niemann and Rahm in the field, these stars have combined for nine wins, six runner-up finishes, five thirds, and 38 total top 10s. In fact Rahm has yet to finish outside the top 11 in all 24 regular season events he’s competed in on the LIV Tour.
“What they’re doing is great for LIV, it’s great for golf, and honestly, I think whoever wins, I think it’s going to be an awesome feat and historical year for either one of those individuals,” DeChambeau said.
