Middlesbrough close in on loan deal for £12.5m Manchester City prospect

Middlesbrough are closing on an agreement to sign Manchester City youngster Sverre Nypan on loan, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Middlesbrough are looking too bridge the gap to the play-offs after a couple of disappointing seasons. Boro came up short twice in their top six pushes under Michael Carrick, ultimately costing him his job.

Rob Edwards is now tasked with bringing top six football back to Teesside, but he needs further backing in the transfer market.

Business has picked up at the Riverside in recent weeks though, and it seems an eye-catching deal is moving closer to completion.

Writing on X, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has said that Middlesbrough are close to reaching an agreement to sign Manchester City teenager Sverre Nypan on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.

The 18-year-old only joined City from Rosenborg for £12.5m earlier this summer, having emerged as one of Europe’s top young attacking midfield prospects. However, they have no intention of starting him in their academy setup, with a jump straight into senior English football awaiting.

A spell in England was wanted by both Nypan and his club, and it seems Boro are poised to get a deal done as they kick on with their summer recruitment drive.
