Whether Jackson Tchatchoua will be eligible to play for Wolves against Manchester City

Wolves look to be reaching a conclusion to their right-back search that has dominated the summer window.

Hellas Verona accepted a £10.3 million bid for Cameroon international Jackson Tchatchoua.

The last update we provided was that Wolves were given the green light to sign the player pending an agreement on personal terms.

On Thursday night, it emerged that the agreement was done and a medical has been booked, so now it looks like a matter of when, not if.

When Jackson Tchatchoua could make his Wolves debut

Provided the rest of the process is smooth sailing, something that won’t be taken for granted by Wolves, Tchatchoua could be announced as a Wolves player today.

But that news would have to come quite soon, before noon on Friday, for the player to be eligible to play against Man City at the weekend.

We have seen quick turnarounds of this nature, but with how Wolves have moved in the market this summer, speed isn’t their forte.

It’s more likely that Tchatchoua makes his debut against Bournemouth next weekend, but until the aforementioned deadline passes, an appearance on opening day can’t be ruled out.

Jackson Tchatchoua will face competition from Rodrigo Gomes and Ki-Jana Hoever

The mission for Wolves in recent weeks has been to find a Nelson Semedo replacement, suggesting that whoever comes in would take his starting spot, but it’s not a foregone conclusion.

Both Rodrigo Gomes and Ki-Jana Hoever will still be gunning for Vitor Pereira’s favour, even with the new arrival from Italy.

Hoever was preferred for most of pre-season, but Gomes should be given a chance to start too. If the 12pm deadline isn’t met to register Tchatchoua, the game against City could be the last chance for one of these players to make an impression.

The reinforcement at wing-back was desperately needed, with the current options not filling Wolves fans with confidence. Hopefully the exciting Tchatchoua can come in and put those concerns to bed.
