Celtic’s reported ambitious move for Man Utd defender dismissed

Celtic have been linked with an ambitious move for Manchester United’s Tyrell Malacia. The Dutch defender is reportedly not included in Ruben Amorim’s plans for the new campaign, meaning he is free to leave this summer.

Reports and social media chatter suggested that Celtic had been interested and could be one of the clubs that lodged a bid. Dutch media site [VI](https://www.vi.nl/nieuws/bekijk-hier-de-laatste-berichten-en-geruchten-op-de-buitenlandse-transfermarkt) have dismissed this claim, suggesting that only a Saudi team have bid for the left back.

The report cites sources close to the player and states that they were surprised by the chatter, insisting there had been no contact with the Scottish Champions over any potential switch to Glasgow.

Celtic signed Hayato Inamura from the J-League this summer, who played at left back in pre-season. However, the Japanese defender has not been involved in competitive fixtures since the league kicked off earlier this month. Liam Scales has been shifted to left back when KT has been withdrawn, suggesting that the manager will be looking to add another left back to his ranks.

Malacia is in a position whereby he will require to play regularly to kickstart his career. Celtic would benefit from adding a Scottish leftback to their ranks to add to the squad and satisfy UEFA requirements. Although, this is not as pressing as the need for attackers given the light nature of the front three.
