Any Manchester United pursuit of Morten Hjulmand may have hit a decisive roadblock, as Sporting make it clear they’re not open to selling their captain in this window.
[According to A BOLA](https://www.abola.pt/noticias/amorim-quer-hjulmand-sporting-nao-vende-mais-nenhum-titular-2025081420484065649?utm_campaign=abola-page-post&utm_content=article-breaking&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_term=cde-twitter-breaking-news-1188), manager Rúben Amorim remains interested in bringing Hjulmand to Old Trafford, especially if United fail to land their first-choice target Carlos Baleba.
However, any attempt to sign the Dane now faces a major obstacle. Sporting are reportedly refusing to sell any more key players this summer, and Hjulmand is firmly among those considered untouchable.
[Journalist Bruno Andrade](https://maisfutebol.iol.pt/transferencias/sporting/hjulmand-sem-clausula-de-rescisao-e-porta-de-saida-de-fechada-pelo-sporting) makes the picture even clearer: despite United’s strong interest, Sporting have “shut the door” on any transfer this window. The midfielder is under contract until 2028, and there’s no plan to revisit the release clause until the summer of 2026.
Now even if Manchester United wanted to trigger the €80m release clause, they’re too late. That clause reportedly expired on June 15th, meaning Sporting can now name their price – or, as they seem to have done, refuse to name one at all.
So unless United come up with an irresistible offer or wait until the summer of 2026, when the clause may be reinstated, the midfielder is staying put in Lisbon.
