Leeds United have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United transfer target Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Last season was nothing less than a nightmare for Manchester United. The team finished 15th in the Premier League 2024/25, and also missed out on the trophy by losing to Spurs in the Europa League final. Along with this, being out of European competitions for the next season was a big blow for our club. Rúben Amorim was made manager in mid-season, but he could not save the team in such a short time. Now the new season 2025/26 is in front of us, and hopefully, this time, steps will be taken in the right direction from the start.
This summer, the club made a strong start in the transfer market. There were high-profile signings like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, which will help increase the team’s aggression. Also, an investment was made for the future by bringing in young Diogo Leon.
However, the biggest move was the signing of Benjamin Šeško, who will fill the striker void after Rasmus Højlund’s disappointing season last season. The season kicks off against Arsenal at Old Trafford, and Amorim will want the team’s new style of play — fast, pressing and fluid attack — to be seen from the very first match.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin saga ends
Leeds United have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United transfer target Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Leeds United
There were recent reports that Manchester United could bring in Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer. However, reports from the SUN have now revealed that the 28-year-old English forward is set to join Leeds United. Everton offered him a new contract, but he decided to leave the club after nine years. The Englishman is set to have his medical soon for Leeds, and he is expected to make his debut against Everton.
Calvert-Lewin has Premier League experience and is strong in the air. His positioning is good, and the 28-year-old can break down defences on his best days. However, injuries have slowed down the former Everton striker’s career in the last few years. He scored only three league goals last season, which clearly shows his struggles.
The right decision for United
Calvert-Lewin’s move to Leeds is no loss for Manchester United. Amorim has already signed Šeško, who is fast, young and ready for the future. Calvert-Lewin’s experience could have come in handy, but his injury history and declining goal return do not fit him into our long-term plans.
For Leeds, it is a good move as they will have a striker with Premier League experience, but for United, it would have been just a short-term move that does not match our ambitions. We already have options like Joshua Zirkzee and Højlund, who have not been sold yet. Thus, Amorim’s focus is in the right place — giving the team strikers who can make a difference in the title race. Meanwhile, the Dane has opened the doors to an AC Milan switch.
