Manchester City will be ready to go “crazy” to sign 26-year-old Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by reputed Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla on Caught Offside, Gianluigi Donnarumma is the subject of interest from Manchester City. Chelsea and Manchester United are also mulling over signing the Paris Saint-Germain outcast. However, the Citizens are ready to go “crazy” to secure the Italian goalkeeper’s services, and he may cost around €25-30 million.
Gianluigi Donnarumma and his situation
Gianluigi Donnarumma has reached a crossroads in his career after entering the final 12 months of his €12 million-a-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Talks between the two parties over a new deal have not progressed, with PSG offering €8 million-a-year wages to the 26-year-old. Additionally, the 2024/25 Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League winners have signed Lucas Chevalier from LOSC Lille.
The Italian international has turned out over 150 times thus far for PSG while keeping 52 clean sheets and conceding 152 goals. However, Donnarumma has no future at Parc des Princes, with the situation capturing the attention of several bigwigs, including Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United.
Premier League adventure on the horizon for Donnarumma?
The last few summer transfer windows have seen Chelsea splash the cash on goalkeepers. The senior squad has several goalkeepers, and Mike Penders is one for the future. However, Robert Sanchez’s inconsistent performances have forced Chelsea to mull over a summer move for a goalkeeper, with Donnarumma emerging as a target.
However, Manchester City’s interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma is baffling. The Citizens have re-signed James Trafford from Burnley this summer. Even though Ederson Moraes and Stefan Ortega face an uncertain future at the Etihad, it is unclear why they want another shot-stopper. Nevertheless, the PSG goalkeeper is a target for Manchester City, and they have recently struck an agreement on personal terms with him.
As for Manchester United, Andre Onana has been inconsistent since arriving from Inter Milan two years ago. With Altay Bayindir failing to convince Ruben Amorim that he can become the first-choice goalkeeper, Manchester United can do with a new shot-stopper. However, Chelsea and Manchester United have taken a back seat in the battle for the PSG outcast’s signature.
On the other hand, Manchester City will be ready to go “crazy” to sign Donnarumma, with Pep Guardiola rating him highly. However, it is unclear if City will match the 26-year-old Italian shot-stopper’s current €12 million-a-year wages. Meanwhile, a deal worth €25-30 million may be on the cards.
