David Moyes’ Everton have struck a deal with Charlton Athletic for the signature of teenage defensive sensation Reuben Gokah.
Everton have been quite active in the ongoing transfer window as they look to add more quality to their squad before the start of a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Merseyside outfit recently secured the services of Jack Grealish from Manchester City, and they are now closing in on the signature of a young defender from the EFL Championship.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Everton have agreed a deal with Charlton Athletic to sign Reuben Gokah. The English youth international is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in his age group, and the Toffees have managed to strike a deal for him.
Gokah has been a part of the Charlton Athletic youth setup since his early days. He has made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances for both club and country. The 2009-born central defender has featured for England at the Under-15 and Under-16 levels.
The youngster is known for his strong physical presence, defensive awareness and his ability to play it out from the back. His performances have caught the attention of quite a few top clubs, and Everton are one of them.
Gokah set to join Everton
Heading into their new stadium, the Toffees have made a significant change to their transfer plans. While they will continue to look for players to reinforce their first team, their priority will be to snap up the best young players and build for the long run.
They consider Reuben Gokah an ideal fit for their project, having received glowing reports on the 16-year-old. As a result, they have struck a deal with Charlton. While the EFL Championship club would have loved to have him around for a few more years, they did not really have many options to play with.
Everton have agreed a long-term deal with the teenager, and everything has been in place since Thursday for the transfer to be made official. While Gokah is expected to be a part of their youth setup for now, it won’t be long before he breaks into the first team.
