“A Very Specific Purpose”: Dak Prescott Benched As Brian Schottenheimer Explains Starting Joe…

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback, was visibly absent as head signal-caller in the first preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams. Instead of Prescott, the Cowboys went ahead with Joe Milton in the game and fans were definitely puzzled. On Thursday, head coach Brian Schottenheimer explained the reason behind Prescott’s benching and remarked that it was simply because the team wanted to try out Milton before the regular season could kick off.

Schottenheimer made an appearance on the ‘DLLS Cowboys’ podcast on Thursday, where he discussed this very topic, among his ideas for the upcoming NFL season. In the preseason opener against the Rams, QB Milton managed one touchdown for the team with a solo interception.

“We went into that game last week with a very specific purpose. We wanted to kind of put Joe out there and sling it around a little bit. That was the plan and see how he handled it,” Dallas Cowboys head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, said on the ‘DLLS Cowboys’ podcast on Thursday.

Brian Schottenheimer does have a pretty great point since the preseason is easily the best time for teams to try out rookies and younger players without making a big dent on their regular season’s depth chart. However, fans are definitely eager to see their main signal caller, Dak Prescott, in the 2025 NFL campaign which is set to kick off with a matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1.

Dak Prescott Called ‘Overpaid’ By Stephen A. Smith

While Dak Prescott may be one of the most popular players of the current Dallas Cowboys roster, not everyone likes the starting quarterback. According to renowned sportscaster Stephen A. Smith, Prescott is grossly “overpaid” by the Cowboys. Smith also remarked that the team has not done enough planning when it comes to the quarterback’s contract.

Prescott may have a pretty juicy deal with the Dallas Cowboys right now, but many critics like Smith would argue that the quarterback has not produced enough fruit. In his entire time with the Cowboys, the quarterback has failed to win even one Super Bowl and the management is definitely getting antsy about this.

Meanwhile, Prescott is definitely not the only popular player in the Dallas Cowboys locker room. Linebacker Micah Parsons also holds plenty of popularity, but the player might soon be seen with another team after he put in a trade request a few days back.
