David Moyes discloses why Dominic Calvert-Lewin actually left Everton after Leeds confirmation

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is about to start a new era, and David Moyes has revealed why he really left Everton.

With Calvert-Lewin moving on from his time with the Toffees, there could be a reunion very soon.

Leeds United looked set to sign Calvert-Lewin, and the transfer has finally been announced following the end of his tenure on Merseyside.

This means there could be a chance that the striker faces Everton on Monday night as their Premier League campaign gets underway.

It’s an intriguing prospect, but Moyes focused on why he truly departed, and the Scotsman didn’t keep quiet.

David Moyes says Dominic Calvert-Lewin was demanding ‘too much’ money at Everton

Much was made of the 28-year-old’s exit, who decided to make the difficult choice to depart Merseyside after nine seasons.

The striker left on the expiry of his contract, and it’s said that Calvert-Lewin demanded £150k-a-week from whoever his new club was to be.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference for the Leeds game, Moyes confirmed that his wages were the main issue as to why he exited.

“I’m pleased for Dom, I didn’t really get a chance to work deeply with him; he picked up an injury, I think I had one or two games with him,” Moyes said.

“We found the financials just too much at the time, so we just had to move on. I’m pleased he’s got himself sorted out.”

Whether it was as much as the £150k stated is another question, but clearly the Scotsman didn’t see fit to keep him on.

Meanwhile, it’s Leeds who will be taking the forward on a free for his new chapter, and Daniel Farke has spoken out on the signing.

What Leeds United boss Daniel Farke said about former Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin

With the Whites confirming the deal, their manager, Farke, said that the former Toffees man will be joining before the announcement was made.

“We have not officially announced it. From this afternoon, he will be a member of our squad,” Farke said in his pre-match press conference.

“Dominic is a proven Premier League player. We want to sign players who have delivered – the boxes are all ticked by Dominic.”

This has of course now been confirmed, as the striker has officially completed his move to West Yorkshire.

After months of waiting to see where the Sheffield-born star will end up, his decision has been made, and Alan Pardew thinks Everton are making a mistake.

That mistake could be proven on Monday if Calvert-Lewin ends up scoring, but it has not been fully confirmed by the Leeds boss yet that he will feature.

Time will tell if this move will be a success for the former Blues frontman, but Moyes wishes him all the best.
