Barcelona face August 28 deadline to confirm Champions League home stadium

The whole situation surrounding the Spotify Camp Nou looks to be quite uncertain right now. While Barcelona are working to return to their home stadium soon, there is definitely a lack of guarantees. However, they do not exactly have the luxury of time on their side.

While a return to the Camp Nou is being targeted in September, Barça will need to give UEFA an answer before that. According to MARCA, the Catalan club will need to inform UEFA which stadium they will be using for their home games during the group stage of the competition at least.

Since the club is strictly against the idea of simultaneously using two stadiums, Barça will need to have everything ready by the deadline, which is the 28th of August. For now, there is reportedly confidence within the club that everything will be sorted out by then.

As for the stadium’s capacity, the club is planning to take things in three stages. Initially, Barça will look to have a capacity of 30,000 spectators, which would then increase to 45,000 during the second stage, which is planned for UEFA Champions League games, and then 60,000 as their final target.

The club needs to sort things out quickly

It is definitely a lot of pressure for the club, but it is one that they should have expected. Now, with La Liga about to kick off, Barça will need to work carefully and quickly to ensure that everything is in place to avoid any unwanted complications.
