David Moyes shows true colours with Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Leeds United transfer response

Everton boss David Moyes has given his reaction to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s transfer to Leeds United, admitting he is pleased for the striker.

The Whites have confirmed that the striker has signed a three-year contract at Elland Road following his exit from Everton at the end of his deal earlier in the summer. The striker has become the Whites' eighth arrival of the summer transfer window.

Calvert-Lewin’s debut could potentially come against his former side as he was registered before the 12pm cut off-point today. Leeds host the Toffees at Elland Road on Monday night (8pm kick-off) as they start their season back in the Premier League.

Ahead of that game, Moyes has responded to Calvert-Lewin’s move to Leeds, and opened up as to why he didn’t stay at Everton.

“I’m pleased for Dom, I didn’t really get a chance to work deeply with him; he picked up an injury, I think I had one or two games with him,” the Everton boss said in his pre-match press conference.

“We found the financials just too much at the time, so we just had to move on. I’m pleased he’s got himself sorted out.”

The 28-year-old spent nine years at Goodison Park after joining from Sheffield United in the summer of 2016. In that time, he scored 71 goals in 273 appearances for the club while providing a further 22 assists.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Daniel Farke explained why the club made a move for the striker. He said: "We are pretty happy and we are all delighted that Dominic will wear a Leeds shirt. Its important for all new signings, we want to sign players who have delivered on a top level, but they are also in a good age, on their way up the hill, not the way down. These boxes are all ticked by Dominic.

"He’s in a really good age, proven at Premier League level with more than 200 games and 60 goals. In 11 appearances for the England team, scored four goals. We don’t have to speak about his qualities. He has all the skills you’d like your striker to have."
