TBR Football can confirm that Sunderland have agreed a deal for French international defender Nordi Mukiele, which will take their spending over £150million this summer.
Wearside sources have confirmed that a deal worth €12million (£10.3m) has been agreed with Paris Saint-Germain for Mukiele – who was previously a target for Manchester United.
We understand Everton also showed an interest in Mukiele, but we can confirm terms are in place with Leverkusen and the player, who is now due for his medical on Wearside.
Mukiele will be the 12th player brought into Regis Le Bris’ squad this summer as they look to give themselves a real chance of staying up.

The Frenchman joins an ever-growing list of additions, including Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo, Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra, Granit Xhaka, Robin Roefs, Omar Alderete, Marc Guiu, and Arthur Masuaku.
Exclusive: Sunderland will sign Nordi Mukiele
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey exclusively revealed that Sunderland are delighted with the business conduct thus far, as Mukiele will soon become the latest addition at the Stadium of Light.
“Sunderland sources are really happy with this window. They were so excited early on with the likes of Le Fee, Diarra, and Xhaka, but now they are really adding depth to this squad.
“They are bringing in a French international in Mukiele, and that is barely causing a reaction, which shows just how far Sunderland have come.
“This is the biggest window in Sunderland’s history, and they go into the opening day of the weekend with real confidence they can stay up, but sources assure me it is not over-confidence, they are just really pleased with how things have gone.”

The 27-year-old has been a name associated with the Premier League throughout his travels across Europe, and now he will finally play football in the English top flight.
Liverpool were interested in Mukiele back in 2020 when he was plying his trade at RB Leipzig, he also attracted Tottenham’s interest, but the Frenchman opted to sign for PSG instead in the summer of 2022.
Sunderland are expressing a serious desire to buck the recent trend of newly-promoted sides suffering an immediate return to the Championship.
The Black Cats’ transfer business has impressed German legend Lothar Matthaus, and it appears Le Bris will remain active in the market right up until the 1 September deadline.
How much have Sunderland spent in comparison to relegation rivals?
Sunderland will kick off their first Premier League campaign since the 2016/17 season when they host West Ham United at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Leeds United and Burnley will join the Black Cats in the top division this season, but despite the pair gaining automatic promotion, it is the play-off final winners who have splashed the most cash this summer.
Rank Club Transfer Spend (Summer 2025) Amount of players acquired (Summer 2025)
1 Sunderland £132,113,205 11
2 Burnley £108,473,645 13
3 Leeds United £73,718,561 8

Although Sunderland have spent the most out of the newly-promoted sides, the current squad is in a far better position to compete for survival this season.
With Adingra, Xhaka, and now Mukiele joining, the squad gains proven Premier League and Champions League experience.
