It looks like third time may in fact be the charm for Bayern Munich and Christopher Nkunku, as the Bavarian giants have reportedly started initial talks with the Blues over a potential deal for the 27-year-old striker.
After a deal failed to materialize in January and interest appeared to wane earlier this summer, Bayern are back again, this time looking for cover for Kingsley Coman (may or may not be going to Al Nassr) and Jamal Musiala (got injured in the Club World Cup).
Details are a bit scarce at this point about the potential deal itself. Bayern might prefer a loan, though Sport Bild claim (via BFW) that a fee of €35-40m is also “under discussion”. That would be about half of what we were asking seven months ago, but so it goes.
Nkunku was left out completely from our two preseason friendlies (see also: Nicolas Jackson), which seems to be a pretty clear indication of what we’re trying to do in this situation. RB Leipzig and Inter Milan have also been linked, but if Bayern do actually want him, Bayern will likely beat all others out easily.
