A former team-mate of Florian Wirtz has revealed that the new Liverpool star attempted to convince him to follow him to Anfield.

Jonathan Tah joined Bayern Munich from Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer this summer, signing a contract with the Bundesliga champions that runs up until 2029.

The defender is one of a number of players to have left Leverkusen in the window and that list includes new Liverpool star Wirtz.

Wirtz joined the Reds in a staggering £116million deal earlier this summer, a fee that could rise to a British club record.

He wasn't the only Leverkusen player to arrive on Merseyside with right-back Jeremie Frimpong joining in a £29.5m deal.

And Tah has admitted that he spoke to the German playmaker about following in their footsteps.

The 29-year-old was asked by Kicker if he attempted to lure his good friend to Bayern and said that it was in fact the opposite.

'I don't want to give too much away,' he said. Maybe he was also courting me at times because I wasn't sure what was next either.

'We both made our decision, that's good, that's exactly how it should be.'

The two players were members of the Leverkusen team that went undefeated to win the 2023-24 Bundesliga.

They will continue to line up alongside one another on the international scene with both being members of the Germany team.
