Report: Leicester City linked with the 'next Joao Felix' who was previously monitored by Chelsea and Inter Milan

Leicester City fans have been hoping and praying for any news of an incoming at the club.

So far this summer, aside from Asmir Begovic, the only transfer news has related to outgoings.

Mads Hermansen, Wilfred Ndidi and Conor Coady have all left, with James Justin also rumoured to be going to Leeds United.

It’s well-known that the Foxes need to sell to buy but those days may finally be over after the first signs of an outfield signing have been mentioned.

Leicester City linked with Benfica youngster Joao Rego

The big position that needs filling for Leicester is the one left behind by Jamie Vardy.

Jordan Ayew started in the Foxes’ win against Sheffield Wednesday before Patson Daka came on, with neither looking likely to score a goal.

They’re the only senior options and fans have been pining for a new striker.

Their dreams may have come true as according to Cabine Sport, Benfica’s Joao Rego is an option.

Rego can play in the number 10 role or as an out-and-out striker and has previously been linked with Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus.

A report from Record in 2024 said that Chelsea had been ‘monitoring’ his progress and may consider making an approach.

If he were to join, he would be Leicester’s first outfield signing of the summer.

Joao Rego was once described as the ‘next Joao Felix’

Benfica’s academy is one of the most prestigious in the world and has been known for developing some of the best players in the world.

One of those who made his name there was Joao Felix before he was eventually sold for a record fee of £105m to Atletico Madrid.

Rego was compared to the attacking midfielder in 2023, but told Record that he would be remaining firmly grounded.

He said: “I’m always very proud to be compared to great players. I’m Joao Rego, Joao Felix is Joao Felix.

“However, he’s had a great career, and I still have a long way to go to reach his heels.”
