Dominic Calvert-Lewin has the chance to rewrite the history books if he makes his Leeds United debut against Everton on Monday.

Calvert-Lewin’s move to Leeds was secured in time for him to make his debut against his former club in the opening matchday of the Premier League.

The striker left Everton on a free transfer at the end of last season, and Leeds turned to Calvert-Lewin after missing out on Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz.

Leeds needed a striker capable of scoring in the Premier League, but while question marks remain over Calvert-Lewin, a fast start against Leeds could see him achieve a unique feat.

Calvert-Lewin’s record last season

In Premier League history, countless players have scored against their former clubs, but if the former Sheffield United striker nets against the Toffees, this will set a unique record.

Should he score, Calvert-Lewin will become the first player to score against his former side on his Premier League debut, and there will be no better way for him to endear himself to his new supporters.

Will Calvert-Lewin start against Everton?

With the striker missing pre-season and only just confirming his move to Leeds on Friday, it appears highly unlikely that he will start against Leeds.

However, with the attacker set to be in the matchday squad, there is every chance he comes off the bench to make his debut, and if he ends up netting as a substitute, he would still achieve this unique Premier League feat.

Joel Piroe has shone in pre-season and is likely to lead the line, but questions remain over his viability as a Premier League starting number nine.

Calvert-Lewin made 273 appearances for Everton, scoring 71 goals, but with his output diminishing in recent years, he will hope to prove that he can still be a useful attacker in the Premier League.
