Sunderland holding off letting player leave on loan – May need him for West Ham

NEC Nijmegen are continuing to work on a deal for Sunderland defender Jenson Seelt but may need to wait until later in the transfer window to get him.

That’s according to ‘club watcher’ for Voetbal International, Sander Janssen’, via Voetbal Zone, who reports hat Sunderland still have short-term plans with Seelt at this moment in time.

A report earlier this week from De Gelderlander stated that Seelt was ‘free to leave’ Sunderland this summer and work was ongoing to find a solution to his future.

That explained that NEC Nijmegen can open the door for him this summer as they had identified the centre-back as a target. Sunderland are open to a deal as they have other options in their squad after competing the signing of Omar Alderete from Getafe.

This was backed up by Voetbal International, who also reported that the Eredivisie side have set their sights on Seelt, and the Black Cats were looking at a loan deal so he can continue his development.

VI now say that a deal with Sunderland hasn’t been done yet as they may need the defender for their Premier League opener with West Ham.

“Sunderland still needs the defender,” Janssen reported.

“Seelt might even start in the first round against West Ham United next weekend. A loan will only become an option after that.”
