Browns linebacker set to go to trial Dec. 2 on domestic charges

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Browns linebacker Devin Bush is scheduled to go to trial Dec. 2 on charges that stemmed from a domestic dispute.

Bush was arrested in May after an incident at his home just outside of Pittsburgh. He is accused of assault and harassment charges. He has been practicing with the team through the preseason.

Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Bruce Beemer is scheduled to hear the case. The trial date was set following a pretrial hearing Friday morning.

Bush has denied the charges. Messages left with his attorney, Robert Del Greco, were not returned.

Bush’s girlfriend told police that the two got into a heated argument at his home. According to a police report, she told officers that he assaulted her and took her car keys. He also smashed her phone, the report said.

A police officer observed an abrasion on the inside of her right wrist and on her right foot, according to the report. She told police the marks stemmed from the struggle for the phone.

In addition to possible sanctions from the Browns, the NFL could also punish Bush under its personal conduct policy.

Bush was released on a recognizance bond.

The Browns re-signed Bush on March 11 to a one-year deal worth $3.25 million, including $2.97 million guaranteed. He played for the team last year and had 74 tackles.
