Exclusive: Liverpool 'will' sign 'superstar' this summer, progress expected over weekend

Liverpool's patience in pursuing Marc Guehi is set to pay off - as they WILL secure the Crystal Palace defender on a £30m deal this summer.

Eagles chairman Steve Parish outlined his stance following the Community Shield last week and wants the situation sorted sooner rather than later. Guehi is out of contract at the end of this season and, rather than lose him for nothing, the England defender will be moved on.

Parish said last week: ‘In the end, people trade players. That’s what football clubs do.”

And he’s been working on a deal that will enable the Reds to capture their man as he wants his club to move back into the market to source a replacement as the final two weeks of the window await.

It is that situation that has led to the proposed transfer fee being at the bottom of the range being demanded by the Eagles at the start of the summer.

They had wanted £40m but a game of brinkmanship has developed and Parish - who has described Guehi as a 'superstar' - knows that his options are limited.

Eagles’ chief Oliver Glasner would prefer to retain the services of the Three Lions stopper for obvious reasons but has reluctantly accepted the situation.

Guehi is understood to want the move - any fears about him not playing due to the competition already at the club are groundless.

The move is in addition to the proposed capture of Parma defender Giovanni Leoni who is also on the Reds’ radar.

The motivations for the move are now well-established and swift progress is expected over the weekend.
