Aston Villa left-back Alex Moreno could potentially replace Jefte at Rangers this transfer window.

The Gers have accepted terms with Palmeiras for the Brazilian defender’s exit, and it feels like a matter of time before an announcement is made.

Besiktas are also in talks for Ridvan Yilmaz, who seems to be out of Russell Martin’s plans at the Light Blues.

The Glaswegian outfit clearly have to address issues in their backline before deadline day, and are wasting no time in doing so.

The Footmercato journalist revealed on X on 15 August that the Light Blues are in the race for the 32-year-old, with Girona also in the mix.

It’s been claimed that left-back is a priority target for Real Betis, and the Spanish defender is open to returning to Benito Villamarin.

While the Glaswegian outfit are keeping tabs on Moreno, it remains to be seen whether he will move to Ibrox in the coming weeks.

Martin has significant issue at Ibrox

Jefte’s departure from Ibrox seemed inevitable after he dropped down the pecking order under the new management.

The 21-year-old was one of the brightest prospects at the Light Blues last season, but things have dramatically changed in recent months.

Martin has preferred Max Aarons at left-back in the first few games of the season, leaving Jefte to think about his future.

Rangers have also angered Yilmaz by handing the Bournemouth loanee the number three shirt, and the Turkish national’s exit shouldn’t come as a surprise in G51.

Moreno joined Villa for £13.2million in January 2023.

The Spanish defender wasn’t able to compete with Lucas Digne.

At Forest, the 32-year-old made 15 Premier League appearances last season.

With two left-backs seemingly on their way out, the Gers have a massive problem in their backline, which they need to plug.

Aarons’ performances haven’t warranted his place on the left side of defence, making the addition of an established defender like Moreno a priority for them.

The Villa ace spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and will certainly add much-needed experience at the Glaswegian outfit if signed.
