Bruno Fernandes says Manchester United is the club he wants to be at while discussing interest from Al-Hilal earlier this summer.
Earlier in the transfer window, Fernandes' future at Old Trafford was uncertain, with his agent holding talks with Al-Hilal officials in Saudi Arabia about a potentially lucrative move. Saudi reports suggested that Fernandes was offered a multi-million-pound deal to join the Saudi Pro League side.
However, with no formal communication between the clubs, Fernandes declined the offer. Months later, he has now spoken publicly about the interest.
The Reds' captain said via O Jogo: "I know that numbers are the most important thing in football, and obviously, the figure the club was going to get for me was a big one. So, I know it was difficult for the club.
"I only spoke to the Al Hilal president once and told him I never thought about leaving. Whatever he wanted to do or not, he should discuss it with the club. I always said that if the club wanted to sell, then yes, they would have to make a decision.
"If they didn't want to, there's nothing to decide because my goal was to stay. It's a lot of money for me too, but that's how it is. People make decisions. I know I won't regret it because I'm where I want to be."
This month, it came to light that Al Nassr were also keen on signing the Portuguese midfielder, with manager Jorge Jesus admitting he had hoped to bring the former Sporting CP star to the club.
"I wanted to," Jesus told Sport Informa when asked about signing Fernandes.
"But Bruno decided on staying. We had already spoken last year. This year I knew he had made the decision to continue with [Ruben] Amorim. He is in a league that they say is the best in the world, but I do not agree. For me, it is the Spanish league [La Liga]."
