Douglas Luiz to Nottingham Forest transfer latest as 'personal terms agreed'

Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal for midfielder Douglas Luiz amid reports they have agreed personal terms with the former Aston Villa player.

The 27-year-old is keen to end his disappointing spell in Italy with Juventus, and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims talks between the two clubs are “accelerating” on a deal reported to be worth between £30m and £35m.

The 27-year-old Brazilian player has struggled to replicate the form he showed in the Premier League with Villa, prompting Juve to part with more than £40m for his services just a year ago.

However, after it had looked like Forest had cooled on the idea of recruiting Luiz, Romano claims it is all systems go again.

He posted on X: “Nottingham Forest have agreed personal terms with Douglas Luiz… now pushing to get the deal done soon as talks with Juventus are accelerating.”

The news comes as Forest are said to be in advanced talks to sign striker Arnaud Kalimuendo from French side Rennes.

The deal for the France under-21 international is said to be worth £26m as Forest seek to address a lack of goals in their side.

They have also agreed deals worth £37.5m for Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson and nearly £30m for Manchester City's England Under-21s captain James McAtee.

After a quiet start to their summer transfer business, things are accelerating at the City Ground with the September 1 deadline for deals now just a couple of weeks away.

Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to make at least four more additions to his squad before then to help with next season’s greater workload.

In addition to the Premier League , Forest are back in Europe for the first time in 30 years, and Nuno is targeting full-backs, wingers and forwards.

The Telegraph reports: “Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes remains high on their list, with West Ham also emerging as competitors to sign the Portugal Under-21 international.

“Dilane Bakwa, the Strasbourg winger, is understood to be a definite target, though a deal is not close to agreement.

“Forest have also held talks with AC Milan over a move for United States international Yunus Musah, who is keen to join the Midlands club.”

Forest kick-off the new Premier League season with a home game against Brentford on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

So far, they have recruited winger Dan Ndoye, striker Igor Jesus, defender Jair Cunha and goalkeeping cover in the form of Angus Gunn.
