Adam Underwood could potentially spring into action as Leeds United face competition for Fenerbahce centre-back Diego Carlos.

Jose Mourinho doesn’t want the ex-Aston Villa defender in Istanbul, and his agents have been told to find him a new club.

Carlos has been attracting serious interest from Elland Road this summer, but it remains to be seen whether the Whites will make an offer in the final weeks of the transfer window.

The West Yorkshire outfit may have no time to waste, though, as other outfits look to complete a possible deal with the Super Lig team.

The journalist reports on X on 15 August that the Ligue 1 outfit have enquired about the 32-year-old centre-back at the Chobani Stadium.

It’s now up to the Elland Road hierarchy to decide whether they want to make an offer for the Brazilian defender, whose career at Villa was derailed by injuries.

Carlos won the Europa League with Sevilla in the 2019/20 season.

Villa signed the defender for £26million in 2022.

The 32-year-old featured heavily in the Champions League last season before moving to Turkey.

Fenerbahce are open to Carlos’ exit, but previously wanted a mandatory buy option to sanction a loan deal.

The Turkish club paid £8.45m for the 32-year-old in the winter transfer window, but they can’t expect a similar fee as he’s clearly not in Mourinho’s plans.

As a result, the Whites may be able to pull off a bargain loan deal with a buy option for around £5m, which would arguably represent great value.

Daniel Farke needs more depth at Leeds

Former Udinese defender Jaka Bijol represents an excellent addition to the West Yorkshire outfit’s squad, but more centre-back arrivals wouldn’t hurt them.

Daniel Farke has Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon at Leeds, with Sebastiaan Bornauw also adding more depth to their ranks.

But the ex-Wolfsburg star has been injury-prone in recent seasons, and the German manager could arguably do with more numbers in his squad to face the rigours of the Premier League.

Ethan Ampadu and Struijk were out of action for some time in the previous campaign, and the Whites need to be prepared for similar situations by signing someone like Carlos.
