Chelsea vs. Crystal Palace: Head-to-head record and past meetings

Chelsea and Crystal Palace will meet on matchday one of the new Premier League season this Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

Both clubs have won two trophies so far 2025, but will seek to improve on their Premier League finishes from last season this time around.

Despite the close vicinity of the two teams, both residing in the English capital, Chelsea and Crystal Palace took decades before they truly became accustomed to each other.

First meeting in 1906, the two would not meet in the top flight until the late 1960s, and even then, the majority of their head-to-heads have come since the advent of the Premier League.

Crystal Palace have been Chelsea's favourite opponents over the past decade, with only one other club managing a longer winning streak in the Premier League era than the Blues have managed over the Eagles.

Between 2018 and early 2024, Chelsea won 13 straight league games against the Eagles, plus an FA Cup semi-final victory in 2022, with only Manchester City's record of 14 consecutive league wins over Bournemouth beating that tally.

That streak was ended during 2024-25 though, because Palace were able to record 1-1 draws in both league fixtures that season, avoiding defeat in both matches of a single campaign for the first time since 1991-92.

Prior to that dominant run for Chelsea, Palace had a respectable record against the Blues, winning at Stamford Bridge in back-to-back seasons - under Jose Mourinho in 2015-16 and Antonio Conte in 2016-17.

One of the most notable recent meetings between the two was in 2014, when a John Terry own goal saw Chelsea lose 1-0 at Selhurst Park, all but ending their hopes of winning the title that season.

All of Palace's four Premier League wins over Chelsea have come under different managers, with current boss Oliver Glasner yet to join the list which includes Tony Pulis, Alan Pardew, Sam Allardyce and Roy Hodgson.

Chelsea have dished out their fair share of thrashings over Palace in the Premier League era though, winning their two meetings by a combined score of 9-2 in the 1997-98 season when Palace were newly promoted.

In Mourinho's first spell at Chelsea, they also made light work of the Eagles, beating them 4-1 at Stamford Bridge in a season where the Blues were crowned champions and Palace were relegated to the Championship.
