Ruben Amorim could send an early warning to Manchester United’s rivals who have written him off during the new Premier League season, according to Danny Murphy.
The 40-year-old Manchester United manager has completed his first pre-season campaign with the Red Devils squad ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season.
The Red Devils signed off their pre-season tour at Old Trafford last Saturday after United defeated Serie A club Fiorentina in a 5-4 penalty shootout friendly win.
United will now begin their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford on Sunday, with the Red Devils welcoming rivals Arsenal to the Theatre of Dreams.
Kick-off for the showdown between United and Arsenal on the opening weekend of the 2025-26 Premier League season is scheduled for 4:30pm UK time.

Ruben Amorim will be hopeful of Manchester United improving in the new season after a disastrous outing at Old Trafford for the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

The Portuguese coach arrived during the previous campaign after Erik ten Hag was sacked last October and United’s form continued to dwindle in the Premier League.
Despite his arrival from Sporting CP last November, Amorim could only lead United to 15th place in the Premier League table after the Red Devils’ poor run of form.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Danny Murphy has suggested that the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha could have a major impact for United.
[…] I actually think Manchester United might surprise a few people now Amorim has had a full pre-season to implement his ideas,” he said.
“Their problem last season was goalscoring but their new forward line of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko could make a huge impact, very quickly.”

Danny Murphy’s telling position on Man Utd challenging for the top half of the Premier League table in the 2025-26 season
Murphy left United out of his picks for the Premier League’s top four, but the 48-year-old BBC pundit did not play down the upset that the Red Devils could cause.
The former Liverpool and England midfielder admitted that United’s busy transfer activity cannot rule Amorim’s men out of challenging for the top six.
“If you look at last season’s top four and throw Manchester United in the mix with what they have done to try to get up there, I don’t remember a pre-season where there has been so much activity by the top clubs,” Murphy added.
United’s Premier League fixture list dropped in June and they face a tough opening five league matches, including encounters with Manchester City and Chelsea.
