Manchester United plot £50 million raid on Portuguese giants for Carlos Baleba alternative

Manchester United are considering a £50 million raid on Sporting CP for Morten Hjulmand, who Ruben Amorim views as an alternative to Carlos Baleba.

According to The Sun, Manchester United are alert to the market and keeping tabs on a few Carlos Baleba alternatives. The Cameroonian midfielder is viewed as the primary target for Ruben Amorim’s side, but the Portuguese manager is now ready to £50 million raid his former side Sporting CP for their midfielder Morten Hjulmand.

Manchester United are not yet done with their transfer business, with a piece or two still missing from their plans. A new midfielder is imperative for the Red Devils ahead of the new season, as that is one area that is weak in Ruben Amorim’s setup.

Carlos Baleba is the key target for Manchester United, with Brighton reportedly demanding as much as £120 million for the midfielder. The Seagulls are not keen to sell him in this window, but the pressure is truly on them to make that decision, given that the Cameroonian is open to the switch.

Manchester United are ready to pay big for Baleba, but the details of the deal are very complicated, which does not guarantee the move will go through. Hence, the Red Devils are keeping an eye out for alternatives in the market, with Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand high on their list.

Hjulmand has a £68 million release clause in his contract, with Manchester United ready to plot a £50 million raid on Sporting CP for the Danish midfielder. The Portuguese side may be open to selling him for around £10 million less than his release clause.

Ruben Amorim could benefit from Rasmus Hjulmand

Amorim knows Hjulmand all too well from their time together at Sporting CP, and the midfielder is well aware of the rigours of the manager’s midfield setup. The report states that should the Red Devils bring in the Dane, they could potentially use the extra cash on someone like Gianluigi Donnarumma.

As per David Ornstein’s latest update, Manchester United are not proceeding with the Baleba chase, which could open the door for an alternative. Hence, they could pursue a deal for Hjulmand as their new midfield signing for this window.
