'I think': Carragher gives Isak to Liverpool verdict live on Sky Sports before kick-off against Bournemouth

Alexander Isak’s potential transfer to Liverpool has been the main thing to dominate transfer headlines from Anfield this summer.

Indeed, there have been times when links with the Sweden international and Liverpool have calmed down, but more often than not, the rumours have resurfaced.

The Reds are currently facing Bournemouth in their opening game of the Premier League season, with the score 1-0 to Liverpool.

And, even though players such as Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz were chosen to start, as we predicted, it’s clear that the Reds are missing that extra bit of influence up front.

Jamie Carragher believes Alexander Isak will become a Liverpool player this summer

With the recent stories that have arisen about Isak’s future, it’s clear that the former Real Sociedad man has his heart set on an Anfield switch.

And, while live on Sky Sports before Liverpool’s game against Bournemouth had even kicked off, Jamie Carragher gave his verdict on the saga.

“I think [Isak] will be [a Liverpool player], I think Liverpool need to sign two attacking players, I think they will go back with another bid.

“Whether Newcastle accept that, but it doesn’t feel like at this moment there’s other names getting bandied about.

Liverpool could still do with signing Alexander Isak this summer

Even though well over £200million has been spent on bolstering Liverpool’s first-team squad, there are still a couple of areas within the team that could do with improvement.

Indeed, Slot has already attempted to rectify one of these issues by signing Giovanni Leoni from Parma.

The 18-year-old was a regular feature in the Serie A last season, with the centre-back having interest shown in him from across the globe.

And, even though a new centre-back will have been high on the Dutchman’s agenda, Isak’s addition is arguably even more important.

The Sweden international is one of the best strikers in the world, and his arrival at Anfield would bolster the Reds’ chances of retaining the Premier League title tenfold.

Indeed, the fee for the transfer of the towering number nine has to be fair, but if a deal can be struck, it’s something that Liverpool should put their full focus towards.
