The expectation is for the Cleveland Browns to allow former Oregon star Dillon Gabriel to start in Week 2 of the preseason.
It remains uncertain what the Browns plan to do after that, but it sounds like Gabriel will at least have an opportunity to prove himself at the highest level this week.
It'll be an excellent opportunity for the youngster to go out and prove that he's much better than some think he is, as there's also some pressure on him to do so. After Shedeur Sanders was impressed in the Cleveland Browns' first preseason game of the year, the lights were on for Gabriel.
Despite the expectation of Gabriel playing in Week 2 as a starter and Sanders impressing during the first preseason game of the year for the Browns, it doesn't sound like the former Oregon star will have an opportunity to be the Week 1 starter in the regular season. According to CBS Sports' Jeff Kerr, Joe Flacco is currently the front-runner for the starting job.

"Injuries have clearly influenced how the Browns quarterback competition has been going, an advantage taken by Flacco to jump ahead of the pack. Flacco was the first-team quarterback throughout the 11-on-11 drills in Day 2 of practice, getting all the reps against the Eagles' first-team defense.
"Flacco was on a mission to prove he should be starting for the Browns in Week 1, and is the clear front-runner for the job," [he wrote](https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/eagles-browns-joint-practice-takeaways-cleveland-qb-battle-has-clear-favorite-dillon-gabriel-finishes-strong/#:~:text=Injuries%20have%20clearly%20influenced%20how,Eagles'%20first%2Dteam%20defense.).
In some sense, there's reason to believe that starting Flacco might be the best decision. However, the Browns will ultimately have to turn the keys over to Gabriel or Sanders at some point.
They have the most potential out of any other quarterback on their roster, which should help them land a starting job at some point.
