On the eve of our first game of the Premier League season, our ongoing search for a striker continues to dominate the headlines.

As Alexander Isak refuses to train in a bid to force a move to Liverpool, we are closing in on Yoane Wissa but must sign two new forwards to sanction the Swede’s sale.

In the mean time, Eddie Howe is stuck with having no natural or prolific striker to call upon: the only manager in the Premier League in that unfortunate position.

So it makes sense why a new report is linking us with fresh interest in one of our previous big name targets, particularly after he made headlines midweek with an inspired performance for his club…

According to [The Mail’s](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-15004579/Newcastle-PSG-striker-Alexander-Isaks-Liverpool.html) Craig Hope, Newcastle have reignited their interest in PSG and Portugal striker Gonçalo Ramos, with both clubs indicating a deal could be done.

It was suggested last week that a move for the 24-year-old was looking less likely, although it seems things may have changed.

Craig Hope reports that Ramos is now a ‘live option’ once again in Newcastle’s small pool of striker options deemed good enough to replace Isak, with intermediaries now indicating that a deal is possible as PSG appear open to a sale.

Ramos produced some heroics midweek during PSG’s Supercup clash against Spurs, scoring a stoppage time equaliser then converting his penalty during the decisive shootout to gift the European Champions more silverware.

But as brilliant of a cameo that was, it’s unlikely to have changed the mind of Luis Enrique over starting Ousmane Dembele as the PSG no.9 for the upcoming campaign.

With 34 goals in 88 appearances for the club, a permanent move could be the fresh start Ramos needs, particularly ahead of the 2026 World Cup where Portugal already have immense depth in attack.

Earlier this week, it was hinted that in spite of Isak’s recent antics, those within the club still recognise his immense quality and that no other player on the market can do what he does.

Simply put, an unmotivated and unhappy Isak will still play football and score goals.

But there’s no guarantee that will happen, and Howe may rightfully stick to his word that only players who want to be here should be given the privilege to wear the shirt.

Combined with the impending arrival of Yoane Wissa, Ramos would be more than capable of matching Isak’s phenomenal attacking output.

And being close to two years younger than Isak would afford him the time to adapt to the Premier League and become the next face of the Newcastle United project.
