Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have initiated contact as they look to sign Barcelona academy graduate Hector Fort.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa are interested in acquiring the services of Barcelona full-back Hector Fort. The Birmingham-based club have knocked on the door of the Spanish club to learn more about a potential transfer.
Fort has been a part of the Barcelona setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team last summer. In his first full season with the Catalan giants, he was involved in a total of 20 matches and was on the pitch for just over 600 minutes.
Jules Kounde is ahead of him in the pecking order, and Ronaldo Araujo also tends to chip in as a right-back when needed; as a result, Fort is unlikely to have much game time next season as well. He could be on the move this summer in search of a more prominent role.
Aston Villa are interested in Fort’s signature
With his contract running out in 12 months, the Spanish giant can certainly look to cash in on him, as his departure could ease their financial concerns and help register summer signings. Aston Villa have emerged as a potential destination for the 19-year-old.
Unai Emery’s team do have Matty Cash and Andres Garcia at right-back, but the Spanish manager seems keen on having more competition at right-back. Fort could prove to be a valuable addition for the short and long run.
His ability to feature on either flank could come in handy. A switch to the Birmingham-based club could provide him with the valuable minutes he needs to elevate his game.
Villa have already made contact as they want to be informed about the teenager’s situation at the Catalan club. With initial talks ongoing, the Premier League outfit could actually look to prise him away before the transfer deadline.
