Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson believes that new top cornerback Jalen Ramsey is going to get burned a lot this season.
Ramsey, who said he was going to get all the top wide receivers this season and it was reiterated by Mike Tomlin on Thursday, drew Mike Evans in the team’s joint practice.
“They know who is going first,” Ramsey said. “...With Joe, he was like. ’Jay, I need that.’ But I’m like, ‘After me, though. You are going to get action after me.’ All three of us, we sat down with Mike T and he even butted in to say, ‘Hey, Jay is gonna be the guy right now.’”
Nelson, however, does not see Ramsey still having that lockdown ability against top wide receivers. Instead, he said that everyone can bet the ‘over’ on any wide receiver he faces, referring to prop bets that designate a number of receiving yards a wide receiver could hit for bettors to win.
“Easy money. Take the over on any wide receiver he guards let’s go,” Nelson said on Instagram.
Ramsey made no qualms in saying he would be the one covering Ja’Marr Chase when the team faces the Bengals. The Steelers take with Ramsey before he came to Pittsburgh and it was clear, the team would use him like a chess piece.
Wherever the team needs Ramsey on a given week is where he will play, and that could include shadowing top wide receivers all around the field.
