**Liverpool has spent big this summer, and whether they manage to pry Alexander Isak away from Newcastle United or not, they are going to be a massive force in the Premier League again this season.**
Jürgen Klopp had become insufferable in his later years at Liverpool, and it turned me against the Reds, having previously held quite a soft spot for them, having several mates who support them (not one of them is from Liverpool, mind).
Arne Slot started to restore that soft spot again, but now, after the way they went after Hugo Ekitike as if to simply spite us, and the way they've got into Alexander Isak's head, it's safe to say I'm not overly keen on them right now.
However, you'd think that, given that the animosity was created on their side, it's truly remarkable how much the Liverpool fans have got it in for us now.

Giovanni Leoni - such a big target for Newcastle .. apparently
Liverpool fans seem to think they've just got one over on Newcastle again
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today, Liverpool confirmed the signing of defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma, and Liverpool.com ran a headline of "[Liverpool laughs in Newcastle's face again with next transfer...](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/transfer-news/liverpool-newcastle-leoni-isak-transfer-32284797)".
As someone who covers Newcastle United and reads all kinds of stories linking us to so many players, I can honestly say that I hadn't even heard of Giovanni Leoni in the context of being a Newcastle target.
A quick Google search has brought up a couple of results, but I couldn't find anything that looked like we were ready to make any sort of genuine attempt to land the 18-year-old Italian defender, so to say that their signing of Leoni is laughing in our face is what is truly laughable.
However, the fact that this is the first time his name has graced our site should give you an idea of how lowkey our interest was. I'm not saying that we catch every transfer rumour by any means, but if one gains traction we don't tend to miss them.
Why so obsessed? You're winning. Enjoy it.

In a week where we signed Malick Thiaw, it's probably safe to say that our focus is now on signing strikers, not defenders.
There may be a desire to bring in another young defender, which is how the Leoni links came about, but it's far from a priority right now.
So Liverpool, enjoy your new signing, enjoy your likely Premier League dominance, and maybe just focus on yourselves now, eh?
