The Ohio State Buckeyes are the reigning national champions of college football. However, the Buckeyes are going to look very different this season. Last year’s offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, left to accept the same role with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Similarly, the defensive coordinator Jim Knowles left to take the same role with the Penn State Nittany Lions. Head coach Ryan Day won’t just have a new staff either, with national champion quarterback Will Howard now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On Friday, Ohio State officially named Will Howard’s replacement as the program’s starting quarterback.
“BREAKING NEWS: Julian Sayin will be named Ohio State’s starter for Week 1 against Texas (Sources),” reported the Drive the Lane podcast.
For those unfamiliar with Sayin, one prominent Ohio State reporter covered his player profile earlier this week.
“Julian Sayin is shaping up to be a generational quarterback. His arm talent is elite he can make every throw from every platform, with accuracy that already looks NFL-ready. Poise under pressure?
“Off the charts he rarely panics, even against fast pass rushes. His football IQ is insane: he reads defenses quickly, anticipates throws, and makes smart decisions on every snap.
“Add in his mobility to extend plays and turn broken situations into completions, plus an incredible work ethic and mental toughness, and you have a QB who can dominate at the college level and project as a future NFL star.”
It’ll be interesting to see how Sayin does having to go head-to-head with the touted Arch Manning in his debut.
