Man Utd should now sign 23yo French star after Baleba setback, available for£20m

Manchester United should pursue a deal for Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume, with Brighton & Hove Albion unlikely to sell Carlos Baleba this summer.

The Red Devils have primarily focused on bolstering the frontline during the ongoing transfer window.

They have already spent over £200 million on the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon and Benjamin Sesko, and there could be more activity.

Baleba is the priority target to strengthen the defensive midfield department, but United won’t be proceeding with a deal this summer due to the huge fee.

The club now need to look at alternative options, and in our opinion, they should swoop for the services of Agoume from Sevilla before the transfer window closes.

The Frenchman was a shining light for the struggling La Liga outfit last season.

The 23-year-old won an impressive two tackles per game alongside four recoveries. He won 54 percent of his duels. He also caught the eye with his work rate and high pressing.

Agoume had a passing accuracy of around 83 percent but he was playing for a club who were in a relegation dogfight last term and just avoided the drop from La Liga.

The Frenchman likes to play more progressive than sideway passes. He had a higher percentile in progressive balls than Paris Saint-Germain’s Joao Neves (78.9 to 75.4).

Sevilla initially acquired 50 percent of Agoume’s rights from Inter Milan in 2024. They recently secured another 40 percent. This suggests an exit could be on the cards.

The Andalusian outfit have had financial troubles with the lack of European football, and it has been reported that the midfielder could yet be sold for just £20 million.

In our view, it is a no-brainer decision to sign Agoume for the reported price. His performances have gone under the radar, and he would be a superb signing for United.
