Tyler Bass 'moving in the right direction' to kick for Bills in preseason finale

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Tyler Bass has made enough progress recently that the Buffalo Bills are preparing for their kicker to return in time for the preseason finale.

Bass didn't kick Friday for the Bills in their joint practice with the Chicago Bears at Halas Hall, but coach Sean McDermott told reporters that Bass is "moving in the right direction" by slowly increasing the intensity of his kicks.

"We’re trying to take it, no pun intended, but one step at a time where he is," said McDermott. "Stationary and just kicking from a stationary position, then getting one step, then two steps, and then into his approach. So, we’re really just trying to be smart and make sure we don’t have a setback and actually get him into a rhythm with the goal of him kicking at Tampa at this point."

Pelvic soreness has kept Bass out of the Bills' last 11 practices. He warmed up prior to their practice at Highmark Stadium on Aug. 4, but running back Ray Davis had to kick. The Bills signed undrafted rookie kicker Caden Davis to handle those duties in their preseason opener against the Giants, and Ray Davis made an extra point in the loss.
