After spending big in the transfer window this summer, Chelsea have a host of players who are deemed surplus to requirements by manager Enzo Maresca.
While further business seems likely at the Premier League club before the window closes on September 1, the Blues need to offload players and reduce the size of their squad.
One man whose future looks set to be away from West London is Christopher Nkunku, who appears to have a foot out the door after Chelsea signed Jamie Gittens and other attacking options.
However, the France international appears to have a potentially exciting option on the cards to play for one of the world’s biggest clubs instead.

Bayern and Chelsea talks ‘ongoing’
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has stated on X that talks between Chelsea and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are under way.
🚨🔴 FC Bayern and Chelsea remain in talks over a potential deal for Christopher #Nkunku. There is still work to be done, and it remains uncertain whether a deal will go through.

Chelsea want Xavi Simons – a player apparently also on Bayern’s radar – and the possible sale of Nkunku could help fund a move for the Netherlands international.
The reporter suggests Chelsea are expecting a fee of around €40 million (£34.5m) plus add ons for Nkunku.
He also states that personal terms should not be an issue, with the former RB Leipzig man keen on a move to Bavaria to join Bayern.
Nkunku’s potential wasted at Chelsea
While injuries have taken their toll on Nkunku since he joined Chelsea in 2023, it feels as though the Stamford Bridge fans haven’t seen the best of the 27-year-old.
The French forward has only played 38 times for Chelsea, scoring six goals, in what is a far cry from the electrifying form he showed for Leipzig.
Nkunku became hot property at Leipzig, scoring 47 times over a four-year spell with the Bundesliga outfit.

This form earned him a call-up to a France squad full of attacking options and made him one of the most sought-after attackers in Europe.
For Chelsea fans, with Nkunku clearly not needed at Stamford Bridge, the 27-year-old will seemingly be added to the long list of former attackers signed for big money that failed to deliver.
