Bajkowski: 'Right now' - Pep Guardiola confirms Man City starter at Wolves

Pep Guardiola appeared to confirm that Ederson will start against Wolves as the intrigue around Manchester City's goalkeeping department goes on.

There has already been a shakeup this summer, with Scott Carson replaced by Marcus Bettinelli and James Trafford replacing Stefan Ortega before the German has already left the club. This week, City refused to deny interest in Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper and Champions League winner Gianluigi Donnarumma with various reports suggesting Galatasaray were close to completing a deal for Ederson.

The Brazilian trained in Manchester on Thursday and Friday though and is part of the squad who travelled to Wolves for their opening Premier League game of the season. Asked who his No.1 goalkeeper is for the season, Guardiola replied: "Right now, Eddy"; asked if that meant he would start against Wolves, the manager said: "If he's fit, yeah".

While the answers were far from definitive, Guardiola did not give the impression that he has a problem with picking Ederson in his starting XIs while there is strong speculation over his future. The coach did not deny the speculation but is yet to hear from his player that he wants to leave.

"Ederson didn't come to me and said he wanted to leave or he has an offer. All the players here are our players and I want them. What's going to happen in three weeks, nobody knows.

"At the end, as always, , the desire of the players is above everything but then they have to find an agreement with the club. If they don't take an agreement, the player will be here because the club spends money on those players."

While Guardiola wants to keep Savinho and Ederson, he did make clear that more departures are necessary from the squad before the transfer window shuts. If there is anyone who thinks they may not play regularly, the best option for them would be to leave.

"They see how many players are in their position, how many players I have. They know it," he said.

"If they stay it's fine, but they know it. The reality is that so they know it.

"If they stay, for me it's fine. It's not ideal but it's my job, I do it. But if they want to play regularly, maybe it's not going to happen."
